Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our tax preparation services. Can't find your answer? Contact us.

How much does tax preparation cost?

Simple W-2 returns start at $150. Self-employed returns start at $300. Business and complex returns start at $500. Final pricing depends on the number of forms, schedules, and complexity involved. See full pricing details.

What documents do I need to bring?

At minimum: photo ID, Social Security cards for all family members, W-2s and 1099s, last year's return (if new client), and bank info for direct deposit. Self-employed clients should also bring business income and expense records. View our full checklist.

Do I need to come to your office?

No. Remote preparation is available. Call us to confirm the current process and receive secure document-delivery instructions. In-person appointments are also available at our Mesa office.

How long does it take to prepare my return?

Most individual returns are completed within 3-5 business days after we receive all documents. Complex returns may take 1-2 weeks. During peak season (late March to April 15), timelines may be slightly longer.

How long until I get my refund?

The IRS typically issues refunds within 21 days of accepting an e-filed return with direct deposit. Arizona state refunds may take 6-8 weeks. You can check your federal refund status at irs.gov/refunds.

Are you an IRS-authorized e-file provider?

Yes. The People's Tax Expert (Lorrie Contreras) is listed in the IRS Authorized e-File Provider Locator as an Electronic Return Originator (ERO) and Transmitter.

Can you help with past-year returns?

Yes. We can prepare returns for prior tax years. Keep in mind that unfiled returns may affect refund eligibility (the IRS generally allows refund claims within 3 years of the original due date).

What if I made a mistake on a filed return?

We can file an amended return (Form 1040-X) to correct errors on a previously filed return. Common reasons include unreported income, missed deductions, or filing status changes. Learn more about amended returns.

I received a letter from the IRS. Can you help?

Yes. We help clients understand and respond to IRS notices, including CP2000 discrepancy notices, audit letters, and balance due notices. Learn more about IRS notice help.

Do you handle self-employed and gig worker taxes?

Yes. We prepare Schedule C for freelancers, independent contractors, rideshare drivers, and other self-employed individuals. We also help with quarterly estimated tax payments. Learn more.

Do you prepare business tax returns?

Yes. We prepare returns for LLCs, partnerships, and S-corporations, including multi-member entities. Learn more about business tax prep.
