What Happens If You Miss a Deadline?
The IRS charges a Failure to File penalty of 5% of unpaid taxes per month (up to 25%), plus a Failure to Pay penalty of 0.5% per month. Interest compounds daily on any unpaid balance.
If you can't file on time, I can prepare an extension (Form 4868) to push your deadline to October 15th. An extension gives you more time to file, but not more time to pay.
