One of the most common questions we get is how long the tax preparation process takes. Here is a realistic breakdown.
Simple W-2 Returns: 3-5 Business Days
If you have straightforward W-2 income, standard deductions, and all documents ready, your return can typically be completed within 3-5 business days after we receive everything.
Self-Employed Returns: 5-7 Business Days
Schedule C returns require more review of income and deductions. If your records are well-organized, expect 5-7 business days.
Business Returns: 1-2 Weeks
LLC, partnership, and S-corp returns have more complexity including K-1 preparation, depreciation schedules, and multi-state considerations. Allow 1-2 weeks depending on completeness of records.
What Affects the Timeline?
- Missing documents: The most common delay. We cannot complete your return until all documents are received.
- Disorganized records: Self-employed clients with unsorted receipts need more time.
- Peak season volume: Late March through April 15 is our busiest period. Starting earlier means faster turnaround.
- Complex situations: Multi-state, rental properties, or significant investments add time.
After Filing: When Will I Get My Refund?
- Federal: IRS typically issues refunds within 21 days of accepting an e-filed return with direct deposit.
- Arizona: State refunds may take 6-8 weeks.
- Check your federal refund at irs.gov/refunds.
